AAAHC acquires HFAP to offer hospital accreditation program

The Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care (AAAHC) last week announced it has acquired the Healthcare Facilities Accreditation Program (HFAP) from the American Osteopathic Association. As of October 14, HFAP is being managed and operated under the direction of the AAAHC’s hospital accrediting arm, the Accreditation Association for Hospitals and Health Systems.

The AAAHC, which is the market leader in ambulatory accreditation, had announced in 2012 that it would be launching a hospital accreditation program. HFAP was created in 1945 to review osteopathic hospitals; it has had deemed status from CMS since 1965 to review all types of hospitals.
