Life Safety, EOC top 2010 most challenging standards list

Every September at Executive Briefings, The Joint Commission announces its most commonly cited standards for the first half of the year. 2010 is no different, and in fact saw a great deal of carryover from last year’s most problematic hospital challenges. From January to June 2010, the single most problematic standard during surveys was, not surprisingly, RC.01.01.01, requiring hospitals to maintain complete and accurate medical records for every patient. In fact, the numbers saw a spike from 49% to 62% from 2009 (year end), Pat Adamski, RN, MS, MBA, director of the Standards Interpretation Group and the Office of Quality Monitoring, told the audience at the New York Executive Briefings on September 15.
