Report explains clinical alarm NPSG

A new report released by The Joint Commission details the reasoning behind the development of the accreditor’s new National Patient Safety Goal (NPSG), which requires accredited facilities to improve clinical alarm safety, according to the February 2014 issue of Perspectives.

NPSG.06.01.01 is being phased in. As of January 1, 2014, hospitals are required to prioritize alarms and identify the most important alarms to manage. Phase II is effective on January 1, 2016, hospitals must develop and roll out policies and procedures and educate staff about alarm management.
