Technology at the bedside may aid future of patient safety, quality

Many hospitals have implemented electronic medical records (EMR) or are currently doing so, and the federal government provides incentives for using this ­technology in a meaningful way. EMRs are a big step up, after all: Instead of a paper chart that needs to be tracked down, is scribbled on, and is in no way interactive, many hospitals are entering the world of a legible, shared network of information accessible anywhere in the health system and on a platform with capabilities to aid clinical decision-making.
