Profile: Healthcare design with Angela Mazzi

While not the sole determinant of health, studies have found healthcare environments have some impact on patient outcomes. Namely, patient rooms and facilities designed with patient comfort in mind can mitigate stress and aid healing. That said, both money and regulatory concerns limit what’s feasible for a clinic or hospital to do with its space.

So how do organizations find that balance between comfort, regulation, and functionality?

Angela Mazzi, FAIA, FACHA, EDAC, is the president of the American College of Healthcare Architects (ACHA). Mazzi has been working in healthcare design since 2004 and spoke with us about what goes into building the best possible space for patients and healthcare staff.
