2015 IPPS Final Rule focuses on healthcare quality efforts

The CMS made hospital quality improvement a major part of its fiscal year 2015 Inpatient Prospective Payment System (IPPS) final rule, which was released last week. A significant portion of the updates to the rule focus on the Hospital Value-Based Purchasing Program, the Hospital Readmissions Reduction Program, and the Hospital-Acquired Condition Reduction Program.

The focus requires increased interdisciplinary collaboration between quality, health information management, revenue cycle, compliance, and technology. The CMS will publish the final rule in the Federal Register on August 22.
