Compliance knows no season—or does it?
The other (early) morning as I was heading to the airport, I caught my first glimpse of the constellation of Orion rising through the eastern sky. I don’t know if you use the stars to mark the passing of time, but my first sighting of Orion always makes me think about the coming of the hibernatory (is that a word? It should be!) time of the year (at least in the Northern Hemisphere), which always makes me think about the less tangible aspects of existence—less tangible, but, to my mind, no less impactful. Things like family, thankfulness/gratitude, even quiet times; I suspect that it has probably never been more important from a self-care standpoint to do exactly that—care for oneself and making sure that our internal capacities are at peak performance.
As you might have noted over the past few months, I have become quite a fan of LinkedIn as a source of information and thoughtful discourse, some of which I think is worth sharing. This article is definitely one of those instances. Richard Corder pens a regular column called “The Heart of Leadership” and recently spoke about “When Gratitude Becomes an Experience.” He focuses on the charge/notion of:
- Where have you experienced gratitude that went beyond a note or words?
- When have you offered gratitude in a way that built a deeper connection?
The manifestation of experiences and deeper connections can become so powerful over time, but sometimes the “rush” of everyday life precludes our being able to truly embrace those experiences and make those deeper connections. I suppose the overarching thought is that one can become more influential, more productive, more … more in some way through these experiences and connections. My goal is to use those experiences and connections to become more human—I think that’s where the real rewards are. I hope you find yours!
Speaking of the fleeting passage of time (it’s a subtext in pretty much every post I’ve ever written), if you’re interested, the company for which I work, The Chartis Group, is presenting a free 2-part webinar on the new Accreditation 360 survey process. Part 1 covers the physical environment and features yours truly and my colleague, Lori Dinney (a fire protection engineer), and is scheduled for Thursday September 25, 2025 from 1-2 ET. Part 2 is an overview of ACC360, and is scheduled for October 1, 2025 from 1-2 ET. Details, including links to register for each session, can be found here. Hope to “see” you there!
