CDC report encourages antibiotic stewardship to prevent HAIs

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) last week released a new report recommend that hospitals improve their antibiotic prescribing practices to help prevent healthcare-associated infections.

When physicians overprescribe high-risk antibiotics, patients face possible allergic reactions, superbug infections, and diarrhea. In addition, this overprescribing makes the drugs less effective because it increases antibiotic resistance. The report includes a checklist for core elements of hospital antibiotic stewardship programs.
